All things related to the Xbox platforms

Apparently you still can't read nodle. Every line there under the PS4 that says 'No xxxxxx' (other than Netflix) is PR spin. They say they aren't implementing it and it's up to the publishers. The publishers are saying they'll implement the same systems/restrictions in both environments....

So your saying that Sony coming out and saying all that stuff is a lie and when it gets released it will have the same DRM, internet checks etc.?

I am really up in the air on this. I have a stack of old games I haven't touch. I still have that xbox live card from over a year and a half ago that I haven't opened.

I think that patience will serve everyone well.

Microsoft: PS4 won't make us change "anything" with Xbox One

Microsoft’s Major Nelson said in an interview recently that Sony’s PS4 console isn’t going to make them change anything about their Xbox One system.

The PS4 pretty much beat out the Xbox One in positive press this week with it’s lack of used game DRM, lack of 24-hour check-ins, and price tag. When asked if these announcements by Sony will influence Microsoft and make them change what they’re doing with Xbox One he had this to say:

“I don’t think,… I mean we’re really not going to change anything we’ve done with Xbox One. We’re very happy,… did you see the games on stage during our briefing? Did you see the exclusives? I mean we’re really really proud of the system and the games that are coming out. When you look at games like TitanFall,… have you gone through Titanfall yet? Enough said. Conversation over. We’re really happy with what we showed on stage as well as what we’re showing here in the booth so I think it is uh,… it’s safe to say that we’re confident where we’re going. We’re also confident that gamers are going to love our vision of the future and what we’re going to offer for gaming

Nelson seems a bit on the defensive here and I feel sympathy for him. I’ve always liked him personally and his job just got a lot harder with all the controversial policies of the Xbox One.

Of course, even if Microsoft planned to change something about the Xbox One in response to Sony’s PS4 they wouldn’t make that decision so quickly and wouldn’t admit it was Sony that influenced it. Still, they seem very proud of everything they’re doing with the Xbox One and hopefully when the system releases they tweak a few of their policies for the better.

Well since this seems legit the only bad thing is the larger price tag. But that's not that big of stopper for me. So who knows maybe it will be Xbox for me now. Ndboarder rejoice!

They may have avoided sure disaster.

Smart move on their part. Everyone can be happy now.

From ndboarder and I agree.

I'm not really rejoicing. I don't get it. The internet check in was not DRM. DRM is the stuff that keeps you from making illegal copies of the disk, which both the Xbox One and PS4 have.

Anyway, why is someone like Francis complaining about needing to be on the internet once a day (just long enough for like 80 KB to sync up somewhere). Obviously he is on the internet frequently.

I get there are a few (a very very few) scenarios where one doesn't have internet for more than 24 hours, but really if you can't live without playing a game for a day or two, you probably have bigger problems than whether your console needs to be on the internet once a day.

Personally, I wish it had stayed the way it was, so that if I bought a game and then my buddies, who don't buy as many games any more, could've just played them. I'm not about to start shipping my games around ND and MN to people for weeks on end, but it would've just been simple for them to play any one of the games in my library the way it was.

I get that they had to do it, but it's unfortunate that so many people just shot the whole idea down because they had to have an internet connection without really considering the great benefits that it offered. Obviously it was a software thing that they can change, because they did, so for the life of the console it could've been great, and at the end of it all they could've just updated it to go back to disk based. Like Gizmodo said, "The xbox one just got way worse and its our fault".

Now just wait, Steam will start allowing sharing and will be praised for, even though they'll have to do something similar in order to ensure they aren't violating game licensing and allowing numerous people to play any one copy (aka the reason you used to need internet for the Xbox One)

Meh, I wish this mattered.... Yeah, Xbox One Day One is at the top, but of the top 10, 4 of them are PS4 or PS4 bundles, and the PS4 launch day edition is sold out.I did hear GameStop quit taking Xbox One pre-orders because they reached their limit. I know Amazon was at one point sold out. Dunno if they got authorized to sell more, or what.

Either way, it's pretty tough to gauge how things are going just based on the hourly top sellers lists of Amazon.
