Well I had to try out some DVD backups on OS X for the first time last night. I installed the software that LK had recommended for such as follows:
MacTheRipper - Removes the encryption
Toast - Fit-to-disk compression and burning
These programs work out pretty good. I'd say MacTheRipper does a good job with handling encryption (not great however), and it is most likely at par or better than DVD shrink (though I haven't used that in quite some time). AnyDVD is still the best one out there, but that doesn't work on OS X. So at any rate MTR seemed to remove encyption and ripped the video down to a disk. One thing that kinda blows is the lack of automation. It's smart enough to warn you about things, but not to just make the right decision on it's own. (Such as "the disk is RCE1 and you don't have one picked, or 'there is no RCE and you have it picked' -- why doesn't it just fucking pick the right one or turn it off then... also Delete a VOB with bad sectors or Pad the VOB...)
Toast is pretty slick too... It's pretty much Roxio Studio, but the Mac version (It is a Roxio product)
