Apple Overtakes Microsoft

Recommended Posts

The main thing here is this is talking market value, which I think is basically the stock price X the number of shares available. Doesn't mean they make more money

A little more on how this all works (and apparently the surpassing has ended, or had at one point)

I realize that everyone thinks that Apple is more valuable than Microsoft. When you see that their market value is $228,360,000,000.00 with a stock value of $250.96, that means that there are 909,945,808 shares out there for it. Microsoft's market value now is $230,310,000,000.00 (OOH...its the most valuable tech company out there again...sorry Apple) with a stock value of $26.28, which means there are $8,763,698,630.00 share out there for it. What this means is that for Microsoft to go up in value $1 billion, it only takes an 11.42 ¢ increase in stock value. But for Apple to go up in value $1 billion, it require a $1.10 increase in stock value, or roughly 10 x's that of Microsoft's increase
