24hr sale - WD 2TB EARS HD - $109.99

Recommended Posts

WOW, THAT'S A LOW PRICE!

Lol... i kinda hate that commercial. Anyhow NOTE that these are EARS drives. They are advanced format drives that are supposed to store things more densely and well that's about what I know about them. That and they use larger block sizes which performs poorly on XP or Server 2003. You can jumper them to revert, but they are ideal for Vista/Win 7/ or Server 2008+

I agree with ndboarder. I would use this as a secondary drive just for data storage. I don't know if I would load an OS on it.

You could load an OS on it fine. It wouldn't be good for storage on XP/2003 either. The OS doesn't know how to properly utilize these new advanced format drives, so you would have to jumper some pins and remove the advanced format on these OS's whether it was for the root drive or storage. Then again.... get the drives, get with the times, and get Win7 if you don't have it
