Running AVG

Recommended Posts

Hi again,

I'm stuck on something else...Sorry for the bother, but hope to get some help here....I have downloaded the AVG Free software from the site and when I install the software and while it's in the installation process...it doesn't seem to finish all the way because it says I have mcafee installed on here...now I do believe I erased it awhile back when I first installed AVG (this was awhile back) just went to the cpanel to remove it and the AVG was installed..recently i removed it from the laptop and now i am trying to install it again and here is where it keeps saying that i have mcafee installed (the cpanel doesn't show it so am i missing something here?)

again, this is strange to me

Well you maybe still have some components from Mcafee still installed. You may want to either manually browse and try to delete the folders. Or use a program like: http://www.revouninstaller.com/ . This will also clean up the registry for you. There is nothing wrong with AVG. But I would recommend try Micorsoft's new AV : http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/ . I use to use AVG all the time, but I have switched over to this. Way better with smaller memory footprint. Let me know if I can be of anymore help.

on this revouninstaller.......if i download and install will it make a crazy changes to the laptop? i don't want to mess up anything on this laptop....i tried running the bitdfender, but that was just taking forever (yet it was running, but then again i was still browsing online) i have superantispyware installed (which is good, but i just want to have some sort of virus protections) so now i am looking at the microsoft

I also have another question..how can i tell what os i am running with vista? 32 or 64.......

If you go under control panel> then system look down by system> then system type that will tell you if you are running 32bit or 64bit. As far as revo goes, I guess it could potentially screw up your system since it messes with the registry. So if you don't feel safe don't use it. But sometime that is the only way to get a program off that doesn't work correct. Also as far as the other programs that you mentioned like superantispyware etc. These are perfectly safe.
