Look like its about to begin...

The British Government is working on a plan to have cameras and tracking devices monitoring all cars at all times. It's in order to be able to properly charge people for congestion pricing plans, a system already in place in London and heading to Manhattan in the next year.Sure, it's great to be able to charge tolls without the traffic snarls that tollbooths cause, but giving the government the ability to track exactly where any of their citizens are going at any given time opens the door for some serious abuses. There's already been a petition against the system that's garnered 1.8 million signatures, so it's safe to say that the public is wary of the plan.

What in the world?!?

How can you charge the driver for congestion of the roadways when its the city planners that are responsible for laying down road ways?

On the other hand...

If you are familiar with tollways, you know they suck.  Sure, you get new fresh payment, but you will pay for it forever, even if its paid for itself already...  Tollways are scams...  Oh and try to evacuate Houston on the damn tollway during a hurricane, effing deathtrap.

I have never been to New York, but I have seen video and pics of streets full of cabs...  I can't see a successful implementation to begin with, but I wonder about it being exploited effectively either...just can't see it working accurately.  ick
