Currently, Baltimore is experiencing increasingly extreme rioting due to racial protests. And since the end of last year with the riots in Ferguson, I wonder if America has started a path towards martial law or some other sort of public rule. Of course, there has always been past major riots, protests, and a civil war since the creation of the U.S, but are we seeing the tip of the iceberg in modern times?

It's also interesting that the military and law enforcement are practicing more public exercises in handling these types of cases. I'm sure that they have always done drills before, but I think they are more worried and preparing for a starker reality. People are becoming restless in America and things aren't improving especially economically and the U.S. is not the power they once were.

I was just talking about this earlier this morning. Here is what I see happening. Everyday on the news you see something about the police either killing or doing something wrong. This is an everyday occurrence. This makes people mad. Do they have a right to be? Yes. Should they be rioting and destroying property? No. They should be taking to the streets to let their voice be heard and doing what is protected in our Constitution. They are going about it the wrong way and giving them what they want. The militarization of our police force and not being held accountable for your actions is the problem. What happened to police helping out and keeping law in order? This is what their job is to assist us, this is why we pay their paychecks. Are all cops doing this? No. But when your not personally held respoisbile and you can basically get away with murder here in lies the problem. Want to fix this all? Make the police officers personally responsible for each of their own actions. No more hiding behind the police force. You messed up you will be held responsible. This would make you think twice before reaching for your gun or tazer. They know they can't get in trouble and this is why they do it. Basically a gang mentality. You stop this at the root and there would be no more coverage on this and therefore people would calm down. Also I think each copy should wear a body cam. I am totally for this. Cameras don't lie and therefore it's going to make you think twice, and therefore your going to be held responsible for your own actions.

But then again maybe this is all just part of the plan, have you ever though about that before?

I agree on the most part, we need to make people accountable, especially like politicians and everyone else, but that's not the case anymore. Another problem is, peaceful protests don't make a significant impact, I wish they would, but would take such a great movement that needs a great leader. But I don't think the government wants a "significant" peaceful protest, they only would allow little ones. Nature takes it's course and people riot and violence ensues. Think of a virus that takes hold where nothing can be done about it, only letting nature take it's course. History repeats itself, since thousands of years ago, we had many civilized societies, but they all fall.

These things (Baltimore / Ferguson / more?) will only result in a couple of things. Either police forces will be too scared to do anything, and then all havoc will break loose, or things will move more and more toward almost (or exactly) martial law.

Honestly, I have very little sympathy for anyone brutalized by police or shot, or whatever. YES, I know there are some extreme cases, but there is always an exception to the rules I guess. For the most part though, I hope we can all agree that the job of the police is to keep the general public safe and to enforce laws.

If you don't want to be assaulted by police officers, then probably you should follow the laws so you do not have to worry about run ins with the few bad eggs in uniforms. Unfortunately, we hear far less about the good police do, and when something terrible does happen it gets 24/7 coverage in today's media.

This stuff may happen frequently, but the population is huge and I do not believe that the actual number of times such things occur is that high in all reality.

A domino effect could happen, yell fire in a theater, everyone panics and all hell breaks loose. A large factor from this is that it can cause mass public panic which causes little things to manifest into larger things. That's when the government starts to enact all types of zero tolerance laws.

I think we're seeing more news of those events because with the Internet the world is smaller, we can instantaneously communicate across the globe. Also in order to keep up traditional news, media has extra work maintaining the 24 hour news cycle. In order to try to make a small story larger, they have to make an effort to connect things. Print and Cable news would love for something to start in one city and take off in others. Reminds me of the Occupy North Dakota tshirt I saw at the comic shop last month. Anyway, "media" would have loved for that to take off.

What is the deal in Baltimore anyway? I don't even know.

There was a black guy who died in police custody a week or so ago from spinal injuries while there (presumably beaten). Leading up to his funeral, protests turned into riots. They are making a bigger deal of this since it's also in a bigger major city (compared to Ferguson). The sad thing is, if you look up Baltimore riots, it's not focused on the black guy who died anymore, it's about what the media looks for more "news worthy" events of it.And yes I agree, worse stuff happens, the media is having field days with this, but will die down soon and go onto the next.

This is how Obama will get his third term in office. Martial law, canceled elections for "safety"

Even Chuck Norris doesn't like the whole "test" of martial law coming up.

Why do you think we went to Iraq and Afghanistan? Door kicking practice.I'm conflicted. I don't want to believe this sort of thing. It always seemed to me that they were looking for something in those places, like an Infinity Gem. I'm not a military strategist, but they way things were done, from what we were shown, seemed odd. Here, I can think of plenty of reasons to kick in doors; meth, human traficking, all that nasty stuff. I can't help but be reminded of this:

First they came for the Socialists' date=' and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist.[/i']
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Major PDs may or may not be approaching their tasks too aggressively, I don't know if PDs scale well to larger Urban areas, this is probably what it looks like when they do try to scale. I don't think we find reason at the receiving end of a taser anymore than a bomb, boot or bullet.Lets not forget, people don't gather in the streets for no reason; its not automatic, like feeling hungry or having to pee in the morning. Someone in these places are suggesting that people gather in the streets. What is that persons motive? Are they doing the just, and moral thing?

What we need to do is make more positive efforts in communicating with each other. I don't know that riots in the street every fixed anything. People need to go to school to be educated, to learn about civics and government to know how to be an active participant.

As a society as a whole, there are a variety of problems. I don't know if any of them will end up in Martial Law.

Some people need a boogey man, because they think it will help keep others in line.

Looks like the racial tensions are at a high again.  This past week with more police shootings on civilians and then yesterday's Dallas shootings on the police.  Obama will push his agenda on guns solely, not recognizing other factors more important like race and division.  These coming months will surely be interesting especially with elections coming up.

Ya it's a shame what happened and very "cowardly" sniping the guys. Race shouldn't even be a factor these days. I mean how long can you keep bringing up slavery. That generation is so long gone. But I believe you are right @ryanator about the gun control part. I also think police force is quite a factor to. I think the power trip police get these days are going overboard. But that what happens to a country on its way to becoming a police state. I feel bad for the cops and their buddies just trying to do their job.

Also tents.

Here we go:

As he did earlier Friday, Obama called on Americans to do more to address police-involved shootings and violence in the criminal justice system. And he also suggested that lax gun laws also played a role: "We also know that when people are armed with powerful weapons, it makes shootings like this more deadly and more tragic," he said.
Also anyone find it strange that after today we have no forgotten about the whole Hillary scandal, even though that was top news yesterday.
