Failing PSU

Linux workstation didn't want to power up after returning last evening. Got it to finally power on and went into the bios. 12 volt rail was reading 10.2 volts. If I keep messing around, the motherboard will be next.

Quality PSU? Name brands make a difference here, Stick with Corsair, EVGA, or Antec.

Yeh it's an old devil. Probably let too much dust collect over time. I think I'll pick up a Corsair and be done with it.

Procrastination smoked the linux workstation's motherboard. Replaced a MSI 785 with a 790 chipset. Quad core upgrade. Fans are pretty loud now with all the dust cleaned out.

Gonna order up a couple of 400 watt corsairs. 35 dollars per unit.  I think I'm going to try to fix the old modular power supply. The mosfets and chokes look good. Looks like about 6 capacitors bit it. They got it all hot glued in there. Getting the board out will be a challenge. Dust seems to be a real killer for PSU's.

That is a decent price for one of their lower line models, can't really go wrong. This is the one that I am using currently. I believe @C Pav may have one like this also.

Just wanted to give a shout out to EVGA. I have had some weird 'buzzing' noise coming from my power supply for about 2 years now. Doesn't affect anything and only happens periodically. So after my new build I thought I would do something about it. I thought about just ordering a new power supply. But I thought maybe I would check on mine. I figured it was out of warranty since it about 5 or 6 years old now. Nope, they have a ten year warranty on them. I talked to support all English speaking people. They said no problem, new one gets delivered today. Pretty sweet warranty.
