What's next for Apple

It's just a fad though. Just like Apple computers in tv shows and movie. It's just for the looks. It's really no difference than having a Ferrari logo on a sewing machine. It might look cool but once you goto use it, you are disappointed and can't do anything with it. Tell you what @@jmanz , you go get your skinny jeans on and wear your suspenders with your mustache waxed and your fedora and go stand in line with the rest of the fgts.

As for lines, people certainly do pre-order and wait in lines for phones other than iPhone. It isn't as publicized and maybe they aren't as long, but what Apple mostly has is the media's eye. Also, you seem to be focused on US sales jmanz. They may not need to be a game changer to keep the fan boys in line, but they got lines from fan boys when they were almost bankrupt. If they want to get the direction of their stock price turned around though they do need something new that sells better outside of the US and CA. Globally we are but a fraction of the population and we are not where smartphone use is going to be growing. Globally windows phone has been taking market share pretty steadily lately, and it isn't from putting any dents in the overwhelming droid share of the market.By manufacturer, Apple is about even, though I do believe they fell behind and have only been losing ground last I saw, with Samsung (who dominates the droid market as an OEM), but by OS, droid is way ahead of apple and way way way ahead of WP. Even with the droves of people and selling out of "gold" phones news, their stock isn't turning around. There will be a bump in week or two when some sales figures show up, but it will be temporary.
Yes, you told me that the Commies love their Windows phones...... :p

Oh I am a WoW fan boy. First to admit it. But considering this is a phone thread and not a MMO discussion this point is invalid. But from a MMO stand point nothing can top WoW. Others have tried and fallen all they can do is copy. But I am happy to discuss this matter is greater detail with you if you would like. :)

Well actually I was talking about your stereotyping of Apple fans.....WOW players have their own unfavorable persona's.

Biggest debut weekend ever, 9 million sales........ They sold 5 million iPhone 5 on debut weekend last year for comparison. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/iphone-5s-5c-sales-top-9-million-biggest-123209887.html
I hear the number 9 million here is pretty much just some spin doctoring. I'm sure they sold well, we all know there's tons of mindless fanboys. Anway, from what I've heard, the 9 million number is Apple's direct sale of devices to carriers, not a reflection of how many actual consumers purchased....

Apple's iPhone 5C sales may be even lower than initially expected, at least according to one prominent analyst.KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in an investors note out Friday that he now expects 5C sales for the September quarter to ring in at 11.4 million, according to information received by Business Insider. That's a 33 percent freefall from his original estimate.iPhone 5C sales for the current quarter are projected at 10.4 million, which would be a 10 percent drop from last quarter's figure.

Kuo, who's typically on the money with his forecasts, noted that Apple is quickly shipping the 5C to buyers. Apple's online store shows an estimated shipping time of just 24 hours. Such retailers as Target and Walmart have also discounted the phone in an attempt to push sales.

Apple is reportedly cutting iPhone 5c production in half from 300,000 units to 150,000 units per day, according to claims by C Technology [Google Translate], which leaked a number of photos of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c ahead of their launches last month. As highlighted by Unwired View, gray market pricing for iPhone 5c units has also been falling as availability has remained solid.

They can't give the 5C away but can't keep the 5S on the shelves.

The only thing new that's more apparent that Apple will release next is the iWatch type device. Samsung already unveiled theirs, but is clunky looking and goes back to the 80's brick on a band look. By rumors, Apple will use OLED technology and it's will be a seamless band like design which I think would sell better.

As for the future of Apple, without Steve Jobs, it will get rough for them. I think Steve Jobs had that personality that almost slave drove employees to get things done the way he wanted, which worked.

I think Apple will go with OLED technology very soon to prolong it's cool factor for it's current line of devices. But that's will just be updates, though I don't know what else they could innovate on next.

This is about the best idea I have heard so far. It's actually the only device I can even think of them doing next. Now see if Microsoft was smart they would beat them to this. But they will only come out with theirs afterwards, or partner with Samsung. This device I don't think is really new though. I know others have played around with it for sometime. But someone needs to do it clean and right.

I agree no one has done a smart watch the way it should be done. That said, I don't know if anyone has a clear idea what the right way is. Whether it's a brick on a band, or otherwise, what should a smart watch do that would actually make it a sellable item? Just launch things on a paired phone and ding notifications in unison with the same phone that you would also have on you or close enough to provide the alert? None of that is really a big selling point.

On the topic of OLED, not sure how this would do anything to prolong anything for Apple. Many of their competitors already use OLED displays.

Well the idea of a smart watch is limited by one thing and one major problem. Size. Now one wants to wear something that is going to be larger or more heavy that what they are already use to. But because of this how are you going to make it interactive? How are you going to squeeze all the electronics in with a long lasting battery without the weight? I just can't really think of a way without having a such a tiny screen that it's near useless. The only thing i can think of is a touch sensitive holographic projector. But then we are getting into sci-fi here.

Agreed. Making a smart watch that has any real use is going to be difficult I think. I'm trying to think of one or two useful functions one could serve, but having trouble thinking of anything other than telling me the time. Caller ID maybe, so you can just look at your wrist rather than pulling your phone out of your pocket. Then again, if you have a BT headset a phone can already tell you who's calling and allow you to answer with that and you don't have to look at anything... The screensize, or overall size are limiting any options I think of, that or its something that devices already do and just gimmicks.

I'd wear a watch with caller id that allowed to ignore or send to voicemail or respond with preprogrammed message. I just made a spreadsheet of 140 characters at 6pt font in a rectangle. I compared it to some of the text on my cell phone and I don't think a tweeting receiving watch its to unrealistic.

For caller id, and ignoring or whichever I'd though of that, but can be done today with a BT headset. Watch is alternative if you don't want the ability to take the call I guess. For taking calls you'd either have to have a BT headset anyway, or have the watch blaring your call out on speaker phone and holding your wrist up to your mouth to talk. In which case you might as well have a phone out I figured.

The whole thing is funny. I stopped wearing a watch because my cell phone had a clock. Now phone manufacturers want to sell watches? It is a made up problem looking for a working solution to sell to a market that doesn't need it anyway. That is why the have to gadget it up. *shrug* Another hang up is that I have another thing to plug in!? Maybe now that we are seeing sub$100 smart phones, we can get to a decent pricepoint for a smarter watch.

Apple is dead in the water

Investors simply hate the stock. There is no other justification for the discount it's getting right now.
