Anyone else in tech service fields hate the stoneface look some people give you when you try to "simply" explain certain things?  It's understandable if it's very techy stuff, but even if you try laymen's terms, they're probably trying too hard to comprehend what you're saying.  Some are also so serious even if you light heartely say something or joke around a little to lighten the situation.  I don't really have a problem with this and not relating specifically to anything in my new IT job at the hospital, but you have those people.

My favorite: Me-"Can you power the pc on for me please?" Lady- "Whoa whoa whoa, don't get all techy on me now." Yes she was serious.

The IT field is just one of those that can be a pain....most of the time. I guess you just get used to it and deal with it since there is little you can do. I guess just fix their problem and say "Don't break it again!" If they ask what the problem was say "Stuff was broke.".

Haha, that should be the number one thing anyone would or should know.  I love the "deer in headlights but remain professional" look (mostly from internal end users, not customers).  They feel they don't want to look like an idiot and that you're trying to undermine them.  They look all serious and I can sense a tiny bit of irate to them.  The best is to just laugh it off and light heartely smiling and acknowledging it's over their head.

Just say "don't you EVER do what you did before again!" while pointing your finger at them sternly looking at them.  You can pound your fist on the desk or something too for better effect.

LOL, that sounds like something Mitch, Tech coordinator at the public schools, would do.
